Shooting My Kids by Elizabeth Halford – eDVD Review

What’s the best way to learn how to take great photos of your kids? Follow a great photographer around and learn from what she does.

And how many great photographers do you know who invite you over to learn from them regularly?

Yeah, me too.  Just doesn’t happen often enough.

Elizabeth Halford recently sent me a review copy of her new eDVD, Shooting My Kids. Elizabeth Halford, for those of you who don’t know her, runs a great blog.  It’s one of my favorites for getting hard-core technical information about photographers and their business.

I wish I had see this video a few years ago, when I was just starting out.  It’s great to watch people in action and hear the words they use.  And even better, Elizabeth shows you the final images during the video of her shoots – what a great way to connect poses and lighting with the end product.

This video contains:

  • A long description of different types of cameras
  • Lenses
  • Weather
  • Capturing action
  • Reflectors
  • On camera flash (I use one of her tips whenever I use on camera flash indoors)
  • Shooting inside
  • Props
  • Locations

Now, this video is truly for the beginners out there.  If you’re comfortable with your camera and are happy with the pix you take of your kids, look for something more advanced to take you to the next level.  This video would be particularly helpful, however, for those of you planning on asking Santa for a camera upgrade for Christmas as it goes in detail to different types of cameras and the advantages of each.

What did I like most about Shooting My Kids?  Elizabeth filmed it in England and I could daydream about having a picturesque  English village as a backdrop to my photography.  That and the awesome tip about getting good flash pictures inside!
