Most of you know that Red River is my source for photo paper for my home printers. And they’ve been a long-time sponsor of Texas Chicks too. I knew Red River was on to something when they started selling 12×12 paper years ago. Do you remember when it used to be so hard to find?
I recently ordered a box of Arctic Polar Luster, which is my favorite paper for photos. I ordered it on a Friday afternoon and it arrived the following Monday. And I didn’t pay for upgraded shipping! Granted, we are both located in the great state of Texas, so the paper didn’t have far to travel. But I’m appreciative of anyone anywhere who works that hard on a Friday afternoon.
This paper is great for both my printers. I use:
- An Epson Artisan
- An Epson R1800 (for 12x12s and special prints)
When I ordered my paper, I remembered how much information about getting good prints at home Red River’s website has. For example:
- Top 12 Printing Tips
- Tips for feeding heavy or thick paper into inkjets
- Color profiles
- How to install color profiles
- How to print borderless photos
- Other inkjet tips
So in lieu of me writing a tutorial today, I decided to let Red River do all the work. If you print at home, odds are that some of these tips will improve your prints!

Erin,
Challenge: send us the same files you print at home on this 12×12 paper & I promise our photographic (dark room) printing will blow you away:)
When printing with photographic paper we are reading your embedded sRGB color profile, printing with light and chemicals, and are not limited to ink colors. Plus they are waterproof/archival.
If you are up for the challenge, let me know! We will comp them for you.
I want to try Red River, however, what is your favorite for B&W portraits and which for your color portraits? Love your site!!!
