Photography and Scrapbooking eBooks

Photography books have an obsessive grip on me.  I read everything I can get my hands on that relates to digital photography or Photoshop Elements.  Even if the books are geared towards beginners, I always learn something.  A phrase will stick with me in a memorable way that finally turns on the “use this idea” light when I’m actually holding my camera rather than a book.

Ella Publishing’s eBook, 40 Top Tips for Better Photos, turned on several of those lights for me.  Technically, yes, I know that we should be aware of the background when shooting.  This book presents an easy way to check the background, and tips for improving a shot when there are distracting elements.

This book is not made for successful professional photographers.  However, for those of us in charge of capturing and recording family memories, this book is great.  In addition to the photo tips, it offers guidance on creating effective scrapbook layouts.

Each photo is accompanied by the shooting data – f stop, ISO, and shutter speed, to help us duplicate the type of shot on our own cameras.

The photography in this book is what I like the best.  Just about all of us can create a beautiful image when we’re at the botanical gardens in full bloom on an overcast day with cooperative adults as subjects.  However, my camera sees the most action at home, in less than ideal lighting conditions, with two wiggly kids and a cluttery background.

Most of the images in this eBook appear to be taken at the author’s home, using her husband and kids as subjects.  This is the kind of inspiration I need. How do I get a cute picture of the kids eating breakfast without showing my messy sink in the background?  How do I take a picture in the backyard in direct sunlight in the middle of the day?

And this 22-page book only costs $5.99.  What a deal!  One of you will win a free book in the contest below.  For those of you who can’t wait, buy hereYou can all download (for FREE) Ella’s Super Sampler, which contains 34 tips, ideas and insights from Ella’s books.

Each time you “social media” this page, enter two comments below.  (Can I use “social media” as a verb?  You know what I mean, right?).

For another entry, check out Ella’s eBooks and tell us which one you want.

Enter until midnight CST on Sunday, April 4.  Winner will receive a free eBook of her or his choice.

It would have to be “20 Simple Secrets of Happy Scrapbookers”. I usually draw a blank when I think of starting a scrapbook page, so it would be great to have some creative help. Thanks!
