Increase Brightness in Photoshop Elements

by Erin on November 8, 2008

Here’s how Photoshop Element’s 7 Smart Brush brightens up dark parts of an image.  It’s probably nothing most of us don’t know how to do already, but it’s good to have a refresher!

Brighten an Image in Photoshop Elements

  • Select the area of a picture that you want to brighten
  • Add a Brightness/Contrast Adjustment Layer by clicking on the half-black half-white circle near the top of the Layers Palette
  • Double click on the Adjustment Layer Thumbnail (the first box on your new layer) to open the Brightness/Contrast Dialogue box.  Increase the Brightness to +30.
  • Hit Ok, and adjust the layer’s opacity as needed.
