Ok, let me just get this out first. ColorInc is holding a buy 2 get 1 free sale on its Stand Out mounts. This is a good offer and it ends December 16 at 5pm est.
Also, ColorInc is giving away one Stand Out mount/print combo right here on Texas Chicks. Read through the post for entry details.
Now, if you had told me about either of these promotions a week ago, I wouldn’t have been all that excited. Since then, however, I’ve received a 16 x 20 review copy of a Stand Out mounted print that ColorInc provided for me.
I get it now. Stand Out mounted prints make for a truly striking presentation of a photo. They impress while letting the image do all the talking.
And they are more affordable than frames. Adding the Stand Out mount option to a 16 x 20 print is less than $30. What kind of 16 x 20 frame can you get for $30?
My photos don’t do justice to the mount. It feels solid and stiff to hold. (I think I was expecting something like those foam bathtub toys that stick on the sides of the tub.) The black edges that you see are not foam – they are plastic.
The print itself is a standard ColorInc print to which you can add the usual options like lustre, matte or texturizing.
A group of these stand out mounted pictures arranged not-quite-symmetrically would make a stunning arrangement on a large wall somewhere. Especially in a family room or anywhere in a sleek contemporary house.
The ColorInc website says that the dimensions of the mount are undersized by either 1/4″ or 1/2″, depending on the thickness of the backing. My tape ruler agrees with that – the 16 x 20 is actually 15 3/4 x 19 3/4. However, my image cropped more than I expected it to. User error perhaps? I’m wondering if my image’s resolution might have been off.
Running my finger over the edge of the mount, in most places I can barely feel where the plastic ends and the print begins. There is maybe a millimeter of print overlap on a section of the bottom and on one of the corners. I don’t get the impression that the print will easily peel away – it seems to be firmly attached on all edges.
On the back are 4 holes to use for hanging.
While the mount is heavier and more substantial than I expected, it is still light enough hang easily on a wall. I just might surprise my husband and hang this one myself – it won’t require any special nails or drywall screws.
A tip on ordering in ColorInc’s ROES system. Select the size and type of print you want, then click the Options button and look for Stand Out in the Mounting section. This option took me a while to find.
By the way, ColorInc did not pay me to write this post. They did, however, supply me with the review mount and they do purchase advertising space from me.
To enter the contest, visit the Services Page at ColorInc and comment with the name of a product from ColorInc’s Holiday Hot List. Get other entries each time you use on of the Share and Enjoy buttons just above the Comments section. I love Digg and StumbleUpon, by the way!
Comments will close at midnight CST Friday, December 18 and I’ll announce a winner shortly thereafter.

I’ve been really wanting to do a canvas wrap or a stand out arrangement on one our walls, but my hubby thinks its weird to have pictures of yourself in your own home. I’m just going to do it anyway while he’s gone and he’ll just have to deal with it!
