Scrapbooking has never been my thing. I love my camera and playing with photography so much that I just don’t have time to put those pictures in a scrapbook.
But I’m going to try, starting Monday. Ali Edwards is running her Week in the Life Project again this year, and it starts tomorrow. It involves keeping your camera with you 24/7 for one week and documenting mundane everyday life. Stuff to look back on fondly 20 years from now. My plan is to create something like Ali’s book from 2008:
I really like the formula for this book. Each day starts with a narrative or journal, plus one image. It’s followed by a sheet protector for baseball cards, which holds pictures, mementos and decorative elements. And Ali’s day ends with a photo collage:
For 7 days, I can do this! Do any of you follow Ali’s blog? Are you making your Week in the Life scrapbook this week?
If not, you should check it out. Visit Ali’s blog and look back over her Week in the Life posts from prior years. (There is no cost to participate in this guided project, by the way!) She has great ideas to make this a smooth and streamlined process. I’ve spent a couple of evenings reading and being inspired at her website, and I am totally pumped for this scrapbook project to start. Read through the comments also – they have excellent suggestions and answers to questions.
In addition to taking photos and writing detailed notes about our days, I will be saving mementos from our life. Grocery lists, receipts, school work, newspaper articles, emails, Facebook posts, and whatever I come across that typifies a week in my family.
Ali will post every day with pictures and documentation from her own Week in the Life.
By the way, if you are reading this post late, you can start your own project whenever you want. There is no reason to start when Ali does. Would you like to join me?

I’m planning to use the Week in a Life format to document our two week long trips we’re taking this summer. I want to capture not just the big things, but also the little everyday things. I may end up with extra pages in the middle, though.
Kim, that’s a great idea!! I hadn’t thought of using this format for an ad hoc style. Nothing wrong with extra pages in the middle!
I’ve been following Ali’s blog for years … she’s so talented … but have never participated in her Week in the Life Project. I should … and I say I will, but then I forget or something.
I blog endlessly about paper-crafting so naturally I’m a photo-takin’ machine but I need someone to slap me to commit to a project like this. Sad, isn’t it?!? LOL …
Have fun and I hope you’ll post your pages here so I can ‘oooooohhhh’ and ‘ahhhhhhhhhhhh’ over ‘em!

I’ve been following Ali for quite some time. She does such fabulous work that it paralyzes me at times. I love her idea of week in the life and really want to do it. But I want to get a few other projects off my plate first. (We’re in the middle of some serious landscaping projects that do not lend their hand towards having the camera available….unless you want it covered in mud/sand/dirt/grit. Um, no thanks.)
I love Kim’s idea! I might have to come up with something for my sister-in-laws wedding week in August too! We’ll be on vacay for it, so it’d be a great project.

I’m challenging myself to do it this year! I’m using Evernote to store all my journaling and have digital supplies picked out.
The one thing Ali does which I do not, is keep ephemera. I am not above taking photos of receipts or tickets etc. though!

Hi Susan,
Have you seen this post at Ali Edwards? Let me know if that doesn’t help you, and I’ll whip up a tutorial for you.
Erin
I haven’t been following her, but I do now! haha.
This is an awesome idea! I can’t tell you how many times I tried starting a scrapbook but never actually finished it. When I get my camera fixed I think I will do this, it’s such a neat idea. Thanks for shareing!
